I would like to ask the experts: Can a floating-head heat exchanger be designed with two flow paths?
In theory, it’s possible – just add a partition in the shell side.
Firstly, it makes no sense; secondly, there’s no place where you can add it. After all, there is a floating head cover inside the shell side of the floating head, so it’s not possible to completely separate them. By the time you reach the floating head plate, the shell side still hasn’t reached its end. If splitting it this way meets your requirements, then that’s also an option
Basically, doing this is a bit strange; although I’ve never seen it done, it’s not impossible if it can meet the technical requirements. Of course, you need to consider the issue of disassembling and reassembling the component. Structurally, considerations are given to disassembly and assembly, leakage, and whether a floating head alone is sufficient; aspects related to heat transfer are not yet understood.
