As shown in the figure below: in the threaded lock ring type heat exchanger, there is a retaining ring, also known as a split-ring. What exactly is its function? I would appreciate it if someone knowledgeable could explain it to me! ! !

The split and joint rings in the high-high threaded ring are arranged in this way: the shell-side pressure is transmitted through the tube sheet, the split box, and the internal bolts, and finally reaches the split and joint rings via the positioning rings. These split and joint rings are located in the grooves of the tube box, where they press against the positioning rings to achieve sealing on the shell side.
