Summary: Our company has a heat exchanger, with water flowing through the tube side and the vapor from the tower top (water, hexane) flowing through the shell side. Currently, the presence of rubber particles in the water results in poor heat transfer efficiency of the heat exchanger. According to feedback from the site, less than a month after the heat exchanger was cleaned, its heat exchange efficiency declined rapidly before remaining essentially constant (it could not get any worse). Moreover, during cleaning, it was found that the rubber attached to the tube walls was sticky like gum. Rubber has a lower density than water, and occasionally it aggregates into larger rubber particles due to factors such as collisions. Requirement: It is desired to find a special heat exchanger that can operate for long periods of time with high efficiency under such medium conditions. The heat exchange conditions are mild, with neither high temperatures nor high pressures. Cooperation model: Available heat exchanger types can be tried out before purchase ; Those willing to conduct research can collaborate on development. Those who happen to be passing by are also asked to recommend reliable manufacturers or agencies (it would be great if contact information could be provided :)). Some teachers have mentioned that spiral tube heat exchangers can use centrifugal force to create eddies, which separate the adhesive from the tube wall.
Can’t we find a way to filter out the rubber particles before they enter the heat exchanger?

Create a new heat exchanger to solve the problem. To be honest: there’s no difficulty at all. With proper design, dirt (rubber residue) is one of the basic considerations in the design – what’s so complicated about that? What advanced experts are needed? It’s a completely ordinary problem; with proper design, there’s no need for frequent cleaning at all. Is it tiring? I was able to design a perfect solution in less than 30 minutes – it’s foolproof.

I considered filters, but they would require very frequent replacement of the filters, which is not convenient; some experienced workers said that the cost of the filters is also high.

Will the cost of the filter screen be higher than that of installing a new heat exchanger? Having two as backups means no need to stop the machine, so the cost will be recouped quickly, right? Regarding spiral tube heat exchangers, either you’ve remembered it wrong or it’s trying to trick you; go and look up its structure
