There is currently saturated steam at 1.8 Mpa and superheated steam at 1.2 Mpa with a temperature of 210°C; both can meet the production requirements. Which type of steam requires less usage? It seems that the latent heat of vaporization provided by the 1.2 Mpa steam is higher.
If the working pressure is the same after entering the container, then the one with the higher enthalpy value requires less amount. If the container operates at steam pressure, then compare the changes in their respective enthalpies, and choose the one with the larger change.
Approximate values: Enthalpy of saturated steam at 1.8 MPa: (at 1.9 MPa) 209.79°C, 2796.4 kJ/kg. Enthalpy of superheated steam at 1.2 MPa and 210°C: (at 1.301 MPa) 2857.51 kJ/kg. These values are fairly similar, but superheated steam requires much more fuel, which means its cost is higher; therefore, it’s better to use the values for saturated steam. If price costs are not taken into account, superheated steam is still the more cost-effective option.
