I’m seeking advice from experts: could you explain the working principle of an expansion tank? And where is the best location to install an expansion tank within a heat exchange unit?
An expansion tank is a device used to maintain stable water pressure in heating systems. It can buffer changes in water pressure, thereby protecting pipes and other equipment from excessive or low water pressure. The expansion tank is usually connected to the heating system via pipes. When water is heated in a system, it expands and increases the water pressure. At this point, the air in the expansion tank is compressed, increasing the pressure inside the tank. As the water temperature drops and the water contracts, the pressure in the expansion tank decreases, allowing air to be released into the system thereby maintaining stable water pressure. Installing an expansion tank within a heat exchange unit is a common practice. It is best to install the expansion tank at the highest point of the heating circulation piping system in order to better mitigate changes in water pressure.
