Recently, two methanation waste heat recovery units independently developed and manufactured by Tianhua Institute were successfully put into operation and have been running stably in a coal-to-natural gas project with an annual output capacity of 5.5 billion standard cubic meters. The successful operation of this key equipment not only sets a new record for supply speed in the industry but also represents a milestone achievement for China in achieving full autonomy and control over core high-end equipment for coal-to-natural gas production. China’s energy resources are characterized by a significant pattern of abundant coal, limited oil, and a shortage of gas. Developing the coal-to-natural gas industry is an important strategic approach to alleviating the supply and demand imbalance of natural gas, ensuring **energy security**, and promoting the clean and efficient use of coal. As a **demonstration base for coal-to-natural gas production, this project’s client plays a vital role in ensuring the availability of gas for domestic use and maintaining energy supply security. The methanation waste heat recovery unit put into operation this time is the core heat recovery device in the coal-to-natural gas system; when operating, such equipment faces severe challenges from extreme conditions such as high temperature and pressure over extended periods of time. In the past, the core design technologies for such key equipment often relied on imports; domestic-made equipment was primarily produced based on foreign design drawings imported from abroad, lacking original innovation capabilities, which thus became a bottleneck restricting the independent development of China’s coal-to-gas industry. The equipment manufactured by Tianhua Institute was designed and produced for the first time using technologies and production processes with entirely independent intellectual property rights, achieving domestic substitution across the entire process from materials to manufacturing, inspection, and acceptance. The successful operation of this equipment marks that China now possesses complete independent technical capabilities and supply chains in the field of core equipment for coal-to-gas conversion, representing a decisive step forward in the process of localization.
