All oil condition monitoring products can be roughly divided into two categories: online, offline, or portable products. Online products are capable of continuously and in real time monitoring the condition of the oil, and the data they generate allow for a clear understanding of the equipment’s operating status, trend analysis, and the possibility of performing preventive maintenance. Offline or portable products, on the other hand, enable more in-depth analysis of the equipment’s lubrication conditions at any time and place as needed, providing more detailed information for fault diagnosis and early warning. We use the following criteria to evaluate a portable product: First, it must have a compact design that allows it to function in various complex environments. Compared to online products, due to changes in the operating environment, particularly differences in climate and working conditions, portable products generally try to minimize the number of moving parts to ensure their suitability for various outdoor environments. Secondly, it is necessary to achieve high accuracy, high precision, and high sensitivity in the measurement data. Compared to the complex instruments used in laboratories, portable devices inevitably have lower accuracy in measurement data due to their flexibility of use. However, a good portable device should not be one where one drawback has to be chosen over another; an excellent portable device focuses on improving both its practicality and ease of use, balancing these two aspects. Finally, it is necessary to ensure that measurement data can be easily obtained and stored conveniently. Portable devices generate a large amount of measurement data throughout their lifespan. Unlike inline devices, portable devices may be used by different operators to test various equipment; as a result, the collection of such data is quite complex. It is necessary to categorize the data from each test in order to facilitate data analysis and trend identification.
