The modernization of measurement and control technology is widely recognized as an important condition and a clear indicator of the modernization of science, technology, and production. With the rapid advancement of computer technology, communication technology, and electronic technology, various advanced measurement and control technologies, devices, and remote communication methods have emerged in the field of modern measurement and control. How to improve the reliability, accuracy, and timeliness of communication in measurement and control systems has always been a set of critical issues that must be considered in the design and research of such systems. In the production of circular rolled products, online monitoring and control of the outer diameter are extremely important. To control the outer diameter in a timely manner, it is necessary to have access to measurement data promptly. As an equipment for online outer diameter monitoring, an outer diameter gauge can provide real-time measurement data, which is then transmitted to the control system. Moreover, some modern laser diameter meters come equipped with their own control systems, which are often used for the online inspection and control of wires, cables, and similar products. A single-channel diameter measuring instrument has automatic control capabilities; it controls the outer diameter of the rolled material by regulating the tractor or extruder. The following is a brief explanation using extruder control as an example. The single-channel diameter measuring instrument sends the measured values to the control and display circuit, which then displays these values in digital form. At the same time, the extruder is controlled via the diameter gauge–extruder digital PID control module based on the deviation value. The extruder requires a position signal; therefore, the diameter sensor–extruder digital PID control module employs a position-based PID control algorithm. Its basic working principle is as follows: the program collects the diameter values from the diameter sensor at intervals set by the user, compares these values with the set values to determine the deviation, and then uses the PID control algorithm to calculate the voltage control value. This voltage control value is added to the voltage of the DC driver for the extruder motor, thereby enabling adjustment of the diameter. The control systems for extruders are basically similar, but the controls for the extruder and the traction machine are opposite: the faster the extruder operates, the thicker the rolled product; the slower it operates, the finer the product ; The faster the tractor, the finer the rolled product; the slower it is, the coarser it becomes. As a high-precision online inspection device, the laser diameter meter is used in various sectors of the industry involved in the production of circular rolled products. It is particularly widely applied in industries such as cable manufacturing, steel rolling, and pipe casting, playing an important role in national economic production. With the development of automation, the use of online control systems is increasing, which means that the applications of diameter meters will become even broader, and they will hold an increasingly important position in industrial measurement and control systems.
