The glass-lined open-reactor currently in use is designed for operating temperatures of 0–200°C. Recently, we have been testing a new product, and the temperature inside the reactor is expected to reach 270°C. Is there any reactor equipment that can withstand temperatures around 270°C? The tank is heat-resistant, corrosion-resistant, and does not react with the product.
It depends on what the reactants are. Reactor vessels with linings such as glass-lined steel are prone to cracking and other problems due to temperature changes; high-alloy steel certainly can handle high temperatures without issues, but the appropriate material must be chosen based on the reactants
270 degrees is sufficient for ordinary 304 stainless steel; just choose based on the properties of the medium – it’s very simple
As for the specific medium and its corrosiveness, it depends on your reaction; it seems you really don’t understand how to select the appropriate materials for equipment. Learn slowly.
The challenge lies in sealing; the gaskets used for glass-lined equipment are generally non-metallic, soft gaskets. At such high temperatures, most of these non-metallic soft gaskets cannot withstand the conditions, and moreover, the force applied by the bolts causes the gaskets to shift... Finding the right gasket is key. I think this temperature isn’t a problem for the glass-lined equipment itself, as it is originally manufactured through high-temperature processes; all that’s needed is to be careful regarding temperature fluctuations during use
If carbon steel is not allowed for the materials, Hastelloy can be used
Non-ferrous metal equipment will work; neither enamel nor fluorinated lining will suffice. It is necessary to investigate the corrosion rate tables for non-ferrous metals. Select the most suitable and cost-effective option. v19163339015
Glass-lined reaction vessels can operate at 270 degrees, but this requires changes to the sealing materials and the materials used for the main pressure-bearing components; ordinary low-carbon steel is not suitable for such operating conditions.
