When 3Cr13 martensitic stainless steel is subjected to corrosion resistance testing in a neutral salt spray environment for less than 24 hours, a layer of surface rust forms. The stainless steel substrate is still visible on the surface after treatment; the corrosion mechanism is not yet known, so I am seeking help from everyone!
I don’t understand the corrosion mechanism, but after acid washing and passivation, our products can withstand salt spray tests for hundreds of hours, or even thousands of hours
Which stainless steel is better to choose? Requirements: hardness of 300–350 HB, and resistance to neutral salt spray corrosion for 200 hours at level 10. I wonder what the thickness of this pickling passivation layer is and what the process used is?
The corrosion resistance of 304 is sufficient to meet the requirements of a 200-hour salt spray test, but its hardness is not as high as that of 3Cr13; although 3Cr13 has sufficient corrosion resistance, its hardness is not adequate. By passivating it, it is likely that it still cannot meet the requirements of the 200-hour salt spray test. The thickness of the passivation film can generally reach 3 micrometers. The application process is relatively simple; it relies on electrochemical principles, with the use of equipment and acids. After electricity is applied, a brush dipped in acid is used to clean the stainless steel surface, removing rust, oil stains, and color changes caused by welds. Afterwards, a passivation solution is used for passivation. The acid solution is not corrosive, so there’s no need to worry about corrosion.
