The renovation project makes use of two existing oil tanks – one is used as a fire water tank and the other as an accident water tank – while a new tank is constructed to serve as a fire water tank. Internal anti-corrosion treatment was not applied during the initial design phase. The fire protection section of the construction drawings requires internal anti-corrosion treatment. Is it necessary? If the roof of the storage tank is modified to have a reticulated shell structure, does the internal anti-corrosion steel structure also need to be well constructed? If I were to do it, would it be feasible to use solvent-free epoxy paint in two coats?

There are many materials available for preventing corrosion in water tanks, and using epoxy-based coatings for this purpose can be considered a good option. Generally, a corrosion-resistant coating thickness of 250 microns is considered a suitable choice; such a coating can typically last for more than 6 years. The general process requirements are: substrate preparation—2 coats of primer—3 coats of topcoat. Using solvent-free epoxy as the topcoat yields good results, with each coat achieving a thickness of around 100 microns.
The inner wall of ordinary carbon steel tanks should be protected against corrosion; coatings are generally used to form an anti-corrosion layer, as without such protection the metal surface will corrode quite severely.
