1. Properties of hydrogen sulfide: The molecular weight of hydrogen sulfide is 34.08, and its density is 1.539 mg/m3. It is also a colorless, **egg-like-smelling acidic gas that is flammable, explosive, toxic, and corrosive. H2S has a high solubility in water, and its aqueous solutions are weakly acidic. At 1 atmosphere pressure and 30°C, the saturated concentration of H2S in water is approximately 300 mg/L, with a pH value of around 4. H2S not only poses a serious threat to human health and safety, but it is also highly corrosive to steel, posing a significant potential risk to the safe operation of equipment in the oil and petrochemical industries. 2. Sources in the petroleum industry: In addition to originating from the reservoirs, hydrogen sulfide in oil and gas is also released when sulfate-reducing bacteria, which thrive there, convert sulfates present in the reservoirs and chemical additives. 3. Sources in the petrochemical industry: Hydrogen sulfide generated during oil processing mainly comes from organic sulfides in sulfur-containing crude oil, such as thiolues and thioethers; these organic sulfides decompose upon heating during crude oil processing, releasing hydrogen sulfide as a result.
