Successful Technical Upgrade of the Syngas Unit at Jilin Petrochemical Fertilizer Plant Author/Source: Date: 2019-01-30 Clicks: 79 News from Jilin Petrochemical Fertilizer Plant indicates that by the end of 2018, the desulfurization system of its syngas unit had been operating stably in single-tower mode for 5 months; this resulted in savings of 450,000 yuan in electricity costs, 100,000 yuan in annual cleaning costs, and overall savings of around 1.2 million yuan. This successful attempt broke the convention that the desulfurization system cannot operate with a single tower in winter. At present, the operation stability rate of this device is 100%, enabling high-load and long-duration operation of a single desulfurization tower, with an hourly gas output of around 19,500 cubic meters. Since the commissioning of the syngas plant in 1982, the desulfurization towers have always operated in dual-tower mode during winter. To ensure that the operating resistance remains under control, the desulfurization tower needs to be cleaned every six months or so. Each cleaning process requires the tower to be shut down, which results in losses for subsequent butyl octanol production, generates high maintenance costs, and also introduces various risk factors. The energy and material consumption in single-tower operation is only half that of double-tower operation; it also reduces equipment corrosion, decreases the number of control points that operators need to monitor, and lowers the operational risks of the facility. In response, the factory established a task force to address this issue, and after repeated discussions, developed a detailed operating plan for a single tower. By adopting measures such as continuous filtration, frequent tank dumping, regular liquid transfer, and precise adjustment of solution components, the suspended sulfur content in the solution was effectively reduced, ensuring the stable operation of the desulfurization system.
