The clean fixed-bed gasification technology has gained widespread recognition, and Dongguang Chemical has blazed a new path for environmental protection! Author/Source: Shanghai Jingye Environmental Protection. Date: November 13, 2020. Click-through rate: 29. On November 9–10, relevant officials from organizations such as the China Nitrogen Industry Association, the Raw Materials Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Atmospheric Environment Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment gathered in Cangzhou, Hebei. Also present were representatives from nitrogen fertilizer enterprises across the country that utilize fixed-bed batch coal gasification technology, as well as representatives from related equipment and technology companies. They attended a national symposium on environmental protection measures for fixed-bed coal gasification technology, and visited the country’s first demonstration facility employing the “atmospheric-pressure fixed-bed batch coal gasification technology without phenol- and cyanide-containing ammonia cooling tower emissions” at Hebei Dongguang Chemical Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Dongguang Chemical). With the care and promotion of the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Association, this facility was jointly developed by Dongguang Chemical, Shanghai Jingye Environmental Protection & Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Shanghai Jingye), and Hebei Zhengyuan Design Institute. It achieves zero emissions of wet residues and VOCs, as well as compliant discharge of wastewater. This project serves as a model example and a successful renovation model for environmental improvements through fixed-bed technology across the entire industry. As the most reliable approach for upgrading fixed-bed systems, this technology is considered to have advantages such as a short upgrade period, low investment costs, and rapid results; it has received high recognition from representatives of the Nitrogen Fertilizer Association and relevant departments. By addressing the environmental issues that have long plagued users of fixed-bed systems, it should be widely promoted. Over the past year since the commissioning of China’s first “demonstration facility for ambient-pressure fixed-bed intermittent coal gasification technology with zero phenol- and cyanide-containing ammonia cooling tower emissions” developed by Hebei Dongguang Chemical, all operational indicators have remained within normal ranges. Persistent problems associated with the fixed-bed coal gasification process—such as carbon-containing wet slag, black water, and VOCs—have been effectively resolved. The quality of the resulting condensate water has significantly improved; after a single treatment process, it can meet discharge standards. At present, this environmental improvement project is still in progress at Dongguang Chemical’s Second Plant. By early November 2020, Dongguang Chemical will have completed the renovation of all 42 gas generation furnaces in the plant, building on the 24 furnaces that were already renovated at the First Plant in 2019. As a result, Dongguang Chemical will become the first company in China to complete environmental upgrades for its fixed-bed gasification processes. At the National Symposium on Environmental Protection and Retrofitting Pathways for Fixed-Bed Coal Gasification Technology, Mr. Zhou, Chairman of Shanghai Jingye, delivered a keynote speech titled “Introduction to the Environmentally Friendly and Energy-Saving Retrofitting Process for Multi-Pollutant Control in Atmospheric-Pressure Fixed-Bed Coal Gas Production, with Quantitative Data to Support Scientific Evaluation of Such Retrofits.” In his speech, he described how Shanghai Jingye’s core technologies have been applied in the retrofitting of Dongguang Chemical’s fixed-bed gasification system. He also introduced Shanghai Jingye’s Multi-Pollutant Purification and Treatment System 2.0 for coal gas production to the attending officials and experts. His presentation was met with great enthusiasm from the experts present, and numerous corporate representatives expressed strong interest in collaborating with us. At present, this advanced process is also being vigorously promoted in China’s largest fixed-bed process bases such as Jincheng in Shanxi and Shandong. Currently, four fixed-bed environmental protection renovation projects are underway, including those for Orchid Group’s Tianyue Branch, Orchid Coal Chemical Co., Ltd., and Shandong Jinmei Riyue Co., Ltd. These projects are designed by Hebei Zhengyuan and being constructed by Shanghai Jingye Environmental Protection. They are expected to be put into operation by the end of 2020. As early as late May 2020, relevant leaders from the Jincheng Environmental Protection Bureau and the Industry and Information Technology Bureau led a delegation comprising major fixed-bed enterprises in Jincheng, such as Orchid Group, to conduct an on-site inspection in Dongguang. They highly commended the demonstration facility for the ambient-pressure fixed-bed batch coal gasification technology without phenol-cyanide-ammonia-containing cooling tower exhaust emissions implemented by Dongguang Chemical. It is believed that this system represents an excellent approach for rapidly reducing the total amount of pollutants under the current severe circumstances. Therefore, nitrogen fertilizer manufacturers using coal in Jincheng should also expedite the environmental protection upgrades of their fixed-bed batch gas generation processes and implement them as soon as possible. http://img.yf116.cn/image/img/20201113/110143961491.jpg In conclusion, the fixed-bed batch gasification technology has come a long way. At Dongguang Chemical, this clean fixed-bed coal gasification technology can now compete with newer gasification technologies, thus ensuring the healthy development of China’s nitrogen fertilizer industry. After more than a year of long-term operation, it has been proven that the environmental improvement and renovation of the fixed-bed coal gasification process is now mature. The Dongguang model yields remarkable results and is a feasible solution; it is characterized by a short renovation period, minimal production downtime, a high level of automation, and ensured safety. It also serves the contemporary needs of maintaining production and stabilizing employment. Compared to replacing the gasification furnaces entirely, this renovation approach involves lower projected costs and greater economic viability. Fixed-bed enterprises with the conditions for renovation should take prompt action to carry out environmental upgrades at an early date, thereby securing greater opportunities for their future development.
