KBR and JM join forces to introduce a combined ammonia-methanol production process. According to KBR Technology & Consulting, KBR and JM signed an alliance agreement on September 8, 2020, to jointly provide technology for the combined ammonia-methanol production process. The combined production of methanol and synthetic ammonia offers many advantages, including reduced investment and operating costs. The combined production process of KBR and JM makes full use of the synergies between these two production methods, thereby minimizing investment and operational costs, while delivering the highest levels of safety, flexibility, and reliability to users. Methanol and synthetic ammonia will contribute to the transition toward a greener and more environmentally friendly energy and fuel sector. John Gordon, General Manager of Zhuoxin Wanfeng, said that our partnership with KBR will elevate the production of synthetic ammonia-methanol to a new level, and its operational flexibility will meet the evolving demands of the market. Since the 1960s, KBR has licensed, designed, or built 244 ammonia synthesis plants worldwide. JM has over 45 years of experience in providing cutting-edge technologies and catalysts for the methanol industry, and has granted technology licenses to more than 100 new methanol plants. The KBR ammonia synthesis technology is widely used in China. Such as Chongqing Jianfeng’s second large-scale fertilizer plant, Yunnan Tianan Chemical Industry, Aksu Huajin Fertilizer Co., Ltd., Inner Mongolia Boda Shidi Chemical Company, China National Coal Group’s Ordos Energy and Chemical Industry Project Phase I, CNOOC Chemical Co., Ltd.’s ammonia synthesis project Phase II, and Inner Mongolia Boyuan Chemical Company, among others. Projects under construction include the technical upgrade project for 550,000 tons of synthetic ammonia at Jiangsu Linggu Chemical, among others. According to Sinopec, as of August this year, Sinopec has authorized 8 methanol production units in China, each with a daily capacity of over 5,500 tons.
