Recently, the Public Engineering Center of Yanchang Petroleum Yan’an Energy Chemical successfully completed the renovation of the regeneration water pipelines for the anion exchange resins in the desalinated water treatment unit as well as those used for process condensate treatment, thereby effectively addressing the issues related to high ammonia nitrogen and high total nitrogen levels in the regeneration water. Due to the high ammonia nitrogen level in the process condensate feedwater, after adsorption by the anion exchange resin bed and ion exchange in the mixed-bed reactor, the ammonia nitrogen and total nitrogen levels in the regenerated water far exceed the design values set for the clean wastewater system of the sewage treatment plant. “The existing clean wastewater treatment system lacks the capacity to handle ammonia nitrogen, and introducing recycled water into the wastewater treatment system is the most effective and convenient solution. ”As explained by Guo Zhitao, the professional supervisor at the Public Utilities Center. Overcoming the challenges of tight deadlines and material shortages, the center coordinated available pipeline materials, idle water tanks, and turbine condensate pumps within the company. By employing special techniques such as on-line piping drilling under pressure, it managed to redirect the regeneration water from the demineralized water unit’s anion exchange bed and the process condensate mixed-bed to the production wastewater system in the east area for treatment, all within just 5 days. The completion of this technical improvement has reduced the total nitrogen level in the wastewater discharged, meeting the emission standards while laying the foundation for the long-term stable operation of the facility.
