On the morning of November 9, a grand inauguration ceremony was held at the project site for the carbon dioxide capture unit, fertilizer production unit, and PSA unit of Turpan’s 1.2 million tons per year Phase II ethylene and related green low-carbon demonstration project operated by Dushanzi Petrochemical Company. Two new sets of carbon dioxide capture units with a capacity of 400,000 tons per year have been installed to achieve near-zero emissions of carbon dioxide from the ethylene cracking furnaces in Phase II of the Tarim project. By utilizing the hydrogen gas produced as a by-product of ethylene production in Phases I and II of the Tarim project, carbon dioxide from the flue gases of the ethylene cracking furnaces in Phase II is captured; part of this carbon dioxide is processed into urea through ammonia synthesis, while the remaining carbon dioxide is used to enhance oil extraction in oil fields. The newly built fertilizer plant, which is part of the relocation and renovation project, is designed to produce 450,000 tons per year of synthetic ammonia and 800,000 tons per year of urea. It will make maximum use of the existing equipment at the Korla plant site of the Dushanbe Petrochemical Tarim Branch, thereby helping to achieve green and low-carbon development in China’s petroleum refining industry, with positive environmental and social benefits. The total design capacity of the newly built PSA unit is 12×104 standard cubic meters per hour. Using the crude hydrogen from Phase I and Phase II of the Tarim project as raw materials, this unit separates hydrogen from fuel gas through facilities such as pressurization, pressure swing adsorption, and membrane recovery. The hydrogen is sent as a raw material to the ammonia synthesis unit and the hydrogen pipeline network, while the fuel gas is sent to the pipeline network.
