On January 20, the Qinghai Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology issued a announcement titled \"Notice on Reducing the Potassium Chloride Production Capacity of Golmud Zangge Potash Fertilizer Co., Ltd.\\", approving a reduction in the company’s production capacity from 2 million tons to 1.2 million tons. Regarding the reasons for the capacity reduction, the announcement states that Golmud Zangge Potash Fertilizer faces severe depletion of resource reserves in the mining area under its control; moreover, some of its production facilities are outdated and the efficiency of resource utilization is low. In order to promote the sustainable development and utilization of salt lake resources, a new plan for the development and utilization of potassium and magnesium salt resources in the mining area of Zangge Potash Fertilizer at the Chaharhan Salt Lake in Golmud City, Qinghai Province, was formulated, and the company voluntarily applied for a reduction in its production capacity. According to the official website of Zangge Mining, Golmud Zangge Potash Co., Ltd. was established in 2002 and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zangge Mining. Its production facility is located in the core mining area of the Qarhan Salt Lake, with an annual potassium chloride production capacity of over 1 million tons, making it the second-largest producer of potassium chloride in China. Currently, Zangge Mining holds mining rights for 724.3493 square kilometers of the Chaharhan Salt Lake, and it possesses potassium chloride resources amounting to approximately 984 million tons in an area of 157.72 square kilometers in the Setani and Bao Districts of Vientiane Province in Laos.
