According to Orchid Group, as of early April 2026, the pure oxygen oxidation furnace at the Tianyue branch had been operating stably for 200 days, marking a new phase in which the company’s pure oxygen oxidation furnaces have moved from trial production to a stage of safe, stable, and long-term operation. During the trial production phase, issues such as unstable furnace conditions and fluctuations in gas flow occurred, but the company was able to resolve them through careful regulation. To improve efficiency, the company went to companies in China that use pure oxygen furnaces effectively, such as those in Linggu, Jiangsu, and Xinlianxin, Henan, to learn from their practices. The company also works together with manufacturers to tackle technical challenges. Taking the 2# pure oxygen furnace as the target, the load was increased by adjusting the equipment structure, upgrading and replacing the furnace grates, and raising the height of the gasification layer inside the furnace, in order to solve the problem of insufficient oxygen supply. After the modification, the oxygen consumption of the gasification furnace met the design specifications, thereby creating the conditions for using up all the raw material coal in the pure oxygen furnace. Data from operations after the modification show that the effective gas content in the gasifier has increased significantly, while raw coal consumption, electricity consumption, and the overall energy consumption for urea production have all decreased to varying degrees compared to last year. In addition to operating pure oxygen furnaces, the company also uses new catalysts and optimizes the systems to fully exploit energy-saving potential. Currently, the daily urea production has increased from 1,161 tons before the renovation to 1,240 tons, representing an increase of 79 tons per day. The residual carbon in the ash decreased from 14% to 6%, resulting in a significant improvement in gasification efficiency. The total emissions, including dust and various pollutants, have decreased by more than 50%, resulting in very significant environmental benefits. Next, the company will further optimize the production process and make every effort to reduce the coal consumption per ton of ammonia produced to the target of 1,020 kg. The environmental upgrading of the gasification and synthetic ammonia production process at Shanxi Lanhuatianyue involves the use of 10 φ3200mm atmospheric-pressure pure-oxygen continuous gasification units manufactured by Henan Changyu, to replace the traditional fixed-bed intermittent gasification units; in addition, Hangyang Air Separation equipment is utilized, and the existing semi-decarbonization units, electrostatic precipitators, raw material gas compressors, decarburization systems, boilers, etc., are also modified to ensure compatibility. The first batch of two systems, comprising 4 pure oxygen gasification furnaces, were put into operation in February 2025; by mid-October, all 10 pure oxygen continuous gasification furnaces of Tianyue Company had been built and brought online.
