Luxi Chemical plans to upgrade Unit 2 for hydrogen peroxide production by adopting Jiangsu Zhongxu’s fully acidic fixed-bed process.

Luxi Chemical plans to carry out renovations on the No. 2 hydrogen peroxide production unit. The transformation adopts the fully acidic fixed-bed hydrogen peroxide production process developed by Jiangsu Zhongxu Technology Co., Ltd. The full-acidic process technology for diluted hydrogen peroxide produced by Jiangsu Zhongxu has been licensed for transfer in 53 sets, with a production capacity of 13.11 million tons. Since 2020, the company’s market share has accounted for 62% of the new domestic production capacity during that period. The technical modification details for Luxi Chemical’s No. 2 hydrogen peroxide plant are as follows. ①Modification of the hydrogenation unit. The original two clay beds were replaced with hydrogenation fluid regeneration beds to meet the requirement of having 2 in operation and 2 on standby for a total of 4 hydrogenation fluid regeneration beds, and a secondary filter for the hydrogenation fluid was added. A on-site level gauge is installed in the hydrogenation unit, and temperature measurement points are added to the catalyst layer. ②The oxidation unit includes an additional heavy aromatic recovery tank; the high pressure at the top of the oxidation tower is interlocked using a redundant 3-out-of-2 logic structure. ③Reformation of the extraction process. Add a working fluid coalescer to improve the separation of water from the working fluid. ④Retrofit of the post-treatment process. The original raffinate separator, working fluid metering tank, and alkali drying system (including the alkali evaporator and alkali separator) were removed; primary and secondary vacuum flash evaporation dehydration equipment was added, and the quantities of the clay bed and hydrogenated clay bed were adjusted to meet the requirements for the working fluid used in the regeneration of activated alumina. After the modification, the circulating working fluid in the entire system remains weakly acidic, which reduces the occurrence of side reactions to a certain extent. In March 2026, the Liaocheng Ecology and Environment Bureau announced the acceptance of the project. Introduction to Luxi Chemical’s 2# Hydrogen Peroxide Plant: The 2# plant was approved for construction in November 2018. The safety facility design review was approved in December 2019. An independent acceptance was carried out in 2022. During the construction of the 2# hydrogen peroxide plant, oxidation fans driven by steam turbines were used. Due to adjustments in the steam and electricity demand within the facility, operations were halted at the end of 2022, and technical upgrades were carried out to replace the steam turbines with electric motors. By the time of the ’5.1’ accident in Luxi in 2023, the project had not yet been completed. With the completion of the accident investigation, and in accordance with the requirements of relevant documents from 2023, safety assessments were conducted again for Unit 2 and Unit 1, along with corresponding modifications. In September 2024, the safety renovation of Unit 1 was completed; it was put into operation after passing the acceptance tests, while Unit 2 has not been put into operation.
