In chemical processing plants, pipes often need to pass through cofferdams, which involves various issues such as drilling, embedding, and sealing. Either the construction work isn’t done properly or there are many problems during subsequent maintenance. Therefore, designers, please try to avoid having pipes pass through cofferdams if possible. Issue: The areas where pipes pass through firewalls were not properly sealed using non-combustible materials. Specification 2: Code for Design of Fire Dikes in Tank Farm Areas (GB50351-2014) 3.1.4 All types of pipelines and cables entering or leaving the tank farm shall cross above the top of the fire dike or firewall, or pass beneath the ground. When it is necessary to pass through fire dikes or fire walls, sleeves should be installed and sealed tightly with non-combustible materials, or a fixed short pipe with both ends connected by flexible hoses should be used.
