Recently, nylon 12 developed and produced by the Sinochem Tianchen Innovation Platform has entered mass production; the production process is now fully operational, and sales have begun. On December 19, according to the Online Approval and Supervision Platform for Investment Projects in Shandong Province, the second-phase project for adiponitrile production at Tianchen Qixiang New Materials Co., Ltd. has been submitted for registration. Tianchen PA12 is now in mass production and available for sale. Sun Zhenyu, head of the Comprehensive Management Department at Sinochem Tianchen Green Energy New Materials Technology R&D (Zibo) Co., Ltd., said: At present, our nylon 12 production line is fully operational, and sales have begun. As a pilot-scale transformation base, the Tianchen Innovation Platform undertakes the scientific research and development tasks, ranging from pilot testing to production, for demonstration projects related to flame-retardant nylon, nylon 46, nylon 6T, and nylon 12 series. The full integration of the entire process from research and development to production of nylon 12 has also laid a solid foundation for the further development of the nylon industry, facilitating the path from research – experimentation – pilot production to industrialization as well as technology transfer. Nylon 12, also known as PA12, can be used in industries such as automotive, electronics, and machinery; it is the most widely used long-chain nylon. In addition to the general properties of ordinary nylon, it has a low water absorption rate, as well as high dimensional stability, heat resistance, corrosion resistance, good toughness, and ease of processing. Especially with the trend toward lighter vehicles, nylon 12 can be used in automotive components including fuel lines, replacing metal parts and serving as an excellent material for vehicle weight reduction. Due to the high barriers in production technology, the core technology of nylon 12, namely the \"laurolactam synthesis process,\" has long been under foreign control. To overcome this key core technology, Tianchen Company established an innovation platform pilot base in Linzi District to carry out innovative research and development as well as testing of nylon 12. On October 18, 2023, the pilot plant for nylon 12 at the Tianchen Innovation Platform was fully completed. Sun Zhenyu, head of the Comprehensive Management Department at Zhonghua Tianchen Green Energy New Materials Technology R&D (Zibo) Co., Ltd., said that the R&D center brings together over 40 doctors from domestic and foreign universities, as well as various high-tech professionals, providing strong technical support for the technological development in the stages following pilot testing. In 2024, the company’s revenue reached nearly 600 million yuan, with total profits amounting to almost 100 million yuan. ! On December 19, according to the Shandong Province Online Approval and Supervision Platform for Investment Projects, the second-phase project of Tianchen Qixiang New Materials Co., Ltd. related to adiponitrile has been submitted for registration. It is reported that the total investment in the Tianchen Qixiang New Materials project amounts to 22.7 billion yuan, of which 10.4 billion yuan is invested in Phase 1 and 12.3 billion yuan in Phase 2. Both phases of this project have been listed as \"provincial key projects\". In August 2019, the foundation was laid for Tianchen Qixiang’s 1 million tons per year new nylon 66 materials production facility. The project is planned to produce 1 million tons of new nylon materials annually, 500,000 tons of hexamethylenediamine, 500,000 tons of hexanitrocinamide, as well as 500,000 tons of acrylonitrile as a by-product. Phase 1 of the project has been completed. The second-phase project covers an area of 1,300 mu, and it will mainly involve the construction of facilities for producing 300,000 tons of adiponitrile and 300,000 tons of hexamethylenediamine. Once completed, Tianchen Qixiang will become the world’s largest production base for adiponitrile. A responsible official from the Tianchen Qixiang project team said that the second phase of the project is expected to be completed within 2 to 3 years. Once production begins, the prices of products at various stages of the adiponitrile–adipamide–nylon value chain will further decline, the market scope will gradually expand, and ultimately a high-end nylon materials industry chain worth hundreds of billions will be established.
