China National Chemical Tianchen signs EPC contract for bioethanol project in Egypt Recently, China National Chemical Tianchen and Egyptian Bioethanol Company (a subsidiary of Egyptian Petrochemical Holding Company) signed an EPC contract for a 100,000-ton/year bioethanol project at the Egyptian International Energy Exhibition. This agreement marks not only Tianchen Company’s first expansion of its food deep-processing business into the North African market, but it is also the first collaboration between Tianchen Company and the Egyptian Bioethanol Company. Ibrahim Mekky, Chairman of the owner’s parent company ECHEM, Mohamed Zaki, Deputy General Manager, and Mohamed ElRashidy, Chairman of the owner’s company Egyptian Bioethanol Company ； Zhao Minwei, deputy general manager of Tianchen Company, the general contractor for the project, attended the signing ceremony. This project uses beet molasses to produce fuel ethanol, reducing production costs through efficient use of resources and decreasing reliance on traditional raw materials such as grains, thereby bringing significant economic and social benefits. The project is highly in line with Egypt’s development strategy for new energy, which focuses on the expansion of renewable energy sources to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Environmental protection principles are integrated throughout the project, with the goal of creating a sustainable industrial chain. As the project progresses and the market develops, the green project for producing alcohol from molasses is expected to serve as a model for the industry, driving the entire molasses-based alcohol industry toward greener and more sustainable practices and contributing to the achievement of the \"dual carbon\" goals. Tianchen Company holds a significant advantage in the fields of advanced grain processing and bioethanol production. Thanks to its precise industry focus, it has completed numerous turnkey projects and design tasks, resulting in an annual production capacity of 1.45 million tons – giving it a dominant position in the market. By continuously expanding the range of products derived from the deep processing of grains, including PLA, PHA, threonine, lysine, and starch sugars, it has become a model for creating an international bioeconomy with Heilongjiang as its strategic hub; this approach serves as a benchmark for industrial upgrading in major grain-producing regions. As another typical project aimed at fully implementing the Belt and Road Initiative, deepening industrial cooperation between China and Egypt, facilitating Egypt’s industrial upgrading, and strengthening the economic and trade partnership between the two countries, this project was signed during the 8th Egyptian International Energy Conference and Exhibition (EGYPS 2025), thereby aligning well with the theme of the conference, which is to \"build a safe and sustainable energy future\".
