Requirements for the installation of pressure relief equipment in storage tanks

Code for Design of Tank Areas in Petrochemical Storage and Transportation Systems SHT3007-2014 5.1.5 Storage tanks that are sealed and protected using nitrogen or other inert gases shall be equipped with emergency pressure relief devices, and shall comply with the following requirements: a) The operating pressure of the emergency pressure relief devices shall be higher than the exhaust pressure of the breather valve and shall be less than or equal to the designed positive pressure of the tank; b) The emergency pressure relief devices shall meet the ventilation requirements necessary to ensure the safety of the tank in case of failures in the nitrogen sealing or other inert gas sealing system, or in the breather valve; c) The emergency pressure relief devices shall be able to discharge directly into the atmosphere. d) For accident pressure relief equipment, emergency vent manhole covers or breathing manholes with a diameter of not less than DN500 are recommended.
