Thionyl chloride reacts violently with water, releasing irritating and corrosive hydrogen chloride gas as well as sulfuric acid mist. It is corrosive to many metals, especially in the presence of humid air. Does it fall under Category A, Item 3? The review expert said yes. I don’t think it’s very similar.
You’re right, it’s not Category A. Phosphorus trichloride poses the same problem: it corrodes metals and produces hydrogen gas.
