Production facilities are not allowed to carry out “pilot tests” or “industrial trials”; but what scale exactly constitutes a “pilot test” or an “industrial trial”?
As I understand it, pilot testing refers to industrial trials carried out at the minimum scale necessary for industrial operation; it is the first step in scaling up processes from the laboratory level. Industrial-scale testing, on the other hand, involves trial production that closely mimics normal production conditions, and it represents the first step in putting a process into actual production use. This may not be entirely accurate, but I hope it’s useful to you.
Now, the pilot-scale operations are becoming larger and larger; I was involved in a pilot project that required an investment of 200 million yuan 10 years ago. The estimate is even higher now.
