According to Article 5.3.1 of GB50160, process equipment of Class A, B, or C shall not be installed above combustible gas compressors; however, high-mounted lubricating oil tanks for internal use are exempt from this restriction... 1. Why shall no liquid handling equipment of Class A, B, or C be installed above compressors? 2. Does “above” refer to directly above? Is it feasible if it’s not directly above? 3. I’ve seen some ammonia compressors in which air coolers are used for compression, condensation, and cooling, and these coolers are placed above the ammonia compressor (not directly above it); this seems to go against what is stated in this point
Class A gas compressors pose a greater explosion risk than those in other locations; as for liquids of Classes B, C, and D, it’s best to keep them as far away as possible. Lubricant is an essential accessory for compressors and should not be left unused. As for the other items, referring to the lubricating oil system, they must be placed in that way – there is no other option – and it’s sufficient to assess that the risks are under control. Rules are inevitably sometimes used as a reference, just like pirate codes
