Previously, the facility used steam-driven single-effect lithium bromide units to produce chiller water as the cooling medium for three coolers; however, since the steam was supplied from outside the installation, this approach was not very efficient from an energy consumption perspective. The consumption of 0.4Mpa steam is 1.2 T/H, while the amount of condensed water at 0.4Mpa in the plant is approximately 7 T/H. Can condensed water be used as a substitute for steam as a heat source for lithium bromide units? Please analyze from your respective professional perspectives. Thank you all!
Theoretically, hot water above 85°C can be used for cooling. Both high-temperature hot water and low-pressure steam serve as heat sources for the generator in a single-effect lithium bromide chiller unit; however, to achieve the same cooling capacity, it is necessary to increase the heat exchange area of the generator, or else the cooling capacity has to be reduced to maintain balance.
Thank you so much for your reply! I consulted the designers regarding this issue; it was found that to achieve the same pressure with hot water, 20–30 times more steam is required. The designers suggested that the actual conditions of the installation do not allow for meeting this requirement, and it is also not possible to compromise on the cooling capacity, so there is no other choice but to give up on this idea!
