There is water hammer in the steam heat exchanger; opening the on-site drain will eliminate the water hammer. Is it due to a backpressure issue?
Water hammer should not be underestimated; I read an article about a case in which water vapor-induced water hammer caused a blind plate to crack and fly off. Installing check valves and minimizing the length of dead zones can help alleviate or prevent water hammer.
Increase the spacing of the heat exchanger baffle plates and drain water promptly.
Add a hydrophobic valve; it doesn’t cost much. Last year, while we were driving, a 4-kilogram pipe burst at the weld site due to water hammer; fortunately, no one was injured!
Is it possible that the check valve is clogged, causing poor drainage?
