(hereinafter referred to as Binxin Steel Group), was officially put into operation. Zhang Rui, member of the Standing Committee of the Ganyu District Party Committee and executive deputy district head; Zhu Rong, professor at the University of Science and Technology Beijing; Feng Chao, associate researcher; officials from relevant departments of the Lianyungang Development and Reform Commission; heads of the park management committee; Lin Tao, chairman and president of Binsteel Group; representatives of the management team; leaders of project partners; as well as representatives from various enterprises and institutions, along with industry media such as World Metal Herald, were all present to witness this important moment. The successful implementation of this project provides replicable and scalable practical experience for the steel industry to achieve its ecological goals, marking an important breakthrough in China’s efforts toward green and low-carbon transformation in the steel industry as well as the high-value utilization of carbon resources. As an important implementation of the **\"dual carbon\" strategy in the industrial sector, this demonstration project utilizes the mature and reliable modified alcohol-ammonia method to capture the high-concentration CO2 emissions from converters. It innovatively turns CO2, which would otherwise be released into the atmosphere, into a valuable resource; after purification, this CO2 is reused directly in steelmaking processes. Once the project is put into operation, it will enable the reduction of approximately 60,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year, save around 10,000 tons of standard coal in terms of energy consumption, and reduce dust and particulate matter by over 4,000 tons at the source, thereby achieving a synergistic effect between pollution reduction and carbon emission cuts, as well as efficient use of resources. Through technological innovation, this project has opened up a new pathway for the large-scale closed-loop utilization of carbon dioxide in the steel industry. It has facilitated the transformation of CO2 from a \"useless waste gas\" to a \"functional medium\", and from an \"environmental burden\" to a \"driver of benefits\". It represents a positive response to the demands for green and low-carbon development in the region, demonstrating the vision and responsibility of the enterprise, and setting a benchmark for the green and low-carbon upgrading of local industries. The official commissioning of China’s first demonstration project for the capture and utilization of CO2 from converter gas represents an important step in promoting the high-end, intelligent, and green transformation of traditional industries. It holds significant symbolic value in helping to establish a green, low-carbon circular industrial system and fostering high-quality economic and social development in the region.
