Thermal stress: The stress that occurs when a temperature changes, preventing an object from expanding or contracting completely due to external constraints as well as the mutual constraints between its various internal parts. Also known as variable temperature stress. It is a type of force. Thermal expansion: The phenomenon in which solids, liquids, and gases experience changes in length or volume due to changes in temperature.
