This is my first time dealing with equipment layout. Could you please explain how the elevations of the equipment are determined in a layout diagram? For example, how are the elevations of storage tanks and pumps in a tank farm determined? Please ask an experienced person to help answer, thank you!
Use the base of the equipment as the elevation. When it is necessary to indicate the elevation of a pipe connected to equipment, the actual elevation of that pipe should be used for marking.
In my opinion, this is mainly considered from the perspectives of safety and cost; the general choices are determined based on the type of storage tank, its capacity, and the medium to be stored. For example, those with a diameter of less than 6 meters can consider using a slab foundation, while those with a diameter greater than 6 meters can opt for a ring wall foundation. The storage tanks in the tank farm are generally built to a height of 300 mm, taking into account factors such as collisions at the pipe openings at the bottom of the tanks and the extent of their overhang, as well as the approach to using monolithic foundations as recommended by the structural engineering team. The foundation for the pump is determined primarily by considering the specifications of the process engineering and piping systems, and by determining the foundation elevation based on the outlet of the storage tank. At least over 100 mm, mainly due to corrosion prevention issues. Personal opinion, for reference only.
Elevation levels include relative elevations and absolute elevations; these should be determined based on the elevation of that specific area, with reference to the elevation levels of similar equipment and containers, while also taking into account practical and economic considerations.

Each has its own conventions; for tank pumps, in the building layout diagram, the elevation at which the equipment makes contact with the foundation is generally used as the reference.
