Code for Building Design: 3.6.9 – The sub-control room can be located adjacent to Class A and B factories; but does that mean the sub-control room itself needs to be designed as an explosion-proof area (i.e., located within an explosion-proof zone)? Additionally, the wall adjacent to the control room must also be a fire wall. So how should explosion protection be handled? If a blast-resistant wall is to be installed, where should it be built – on that wall or on the adjacent partition wall? A fire wall and a blast-resistant wall cannot be the same wall, right?
Do all the cabinets in the sub-control room need to be made as explosion-proof cabinets? Is positive pressure ventilation effective?
First of all, the wall must be a fire wall. Can an explosion-proof zone be marked outside the factory building door or window? Draw the radius; the area within that radius is considered part of the firewall, while windows or doors can be installed only outside that radius. As long as an area is not included in the explosion-proof zone, there is no need to make it explosion-proof. I remember the building codes covering this in quite some detail
Why draw outside the factory building or outside the window? What about the blast wall? Is it also the adjacent wall? Need both a firewall and an explosion-proof wall? Do you mean that the walls within the explosion-proof area are all firewalls, that all control cabinets in that area must be explosion-proof, that the walls outside the explosion-proof area can be ordinary walls, and that the control cabinets inside the explosion-proof area do not need to be explosion-proof? The question is, since half of it is located in the explosion-proof area, should the firewall be built only for half of it? Half of the entire control cabinet is located in the explosion-proof area; so the whole control cabinet can’t be made explosion-proof only in half, right?
Have you drawn a hazard zone classification map? Since your factory is filled with Class A and Class B substances, it’s obviously a hazardous area – goes without saying, right? Drawing outside the factory building means it is a hazardous radiation area; of course, there is no need for explosion-proof cabinets outside areas with explosion hazards. Secondly, have you ever seen a firewall that’s only half built? It’s a problem to have half of the control cabinet located within the explosion-proof area. First of all, such a cabinet must be designed to be explosion-proof; secondly, we wouldn’t design it that way, as it wouldn’t pass the three levels of approval. It has to be either entirely inside or entirely outside – what is the logic behind having it partially inside and partially outside? All walls that must be constructed in explosion-proof areas are firewalls, as specified in the building codes.
