How to select the pipe wall thickness? Now that we know the components of the medium in the pipeline, as well as the pressure and temperature, and have also completed the selection of the material, how do we determine the wall thickness next? Is there a corresponding table? What kind of information again? Seeking help
Our company doesn’t have very specific requirements regarding pipe thickness; it depends on the requirements of the manufacturing unit, and we will provide suggestions in that regard. The choice of pipe thickness is not particularly important (although it can be considered important, at the cost of higher purchase prices). It’s more important to select the right type of pipe material
What industry are you in? . . Our thermal power plant has a dedicated steam and water management team. . Management of flue gas, wind, and coal powder. . There are pipes available in different specifications corresponding to various temperature and pressure levels; your industry probably has them as well
If following American standards, ASME B36.10M can be used; there is a formula available – you can search for it on forums – and the corrosion allowance must also be taken into account.
The pipe diameter is calculated based on the flow rate and fluid velocity, while the wall thickness is determined in accordance with GB50316-2000 6.2.1.1
