In the design of the flare system in the Petrochemical Design Manual (Volume 4), page 647 is as shown in the attachment. I don’t understand why the design pressure of the downstream equipment is higher than the design pressure of the upstream equipment, and it is twice as high.
The fact that you ask this question shows that there is not enough research on standards. Many things in the petrochemical design manual come from standards. Just look up the standards and you will know. SH3009-2013 Design Code for Petrochemical Combustible Gas Emission Systems, Article 8.2.11, is this provision. The explanation of the article clearly explains why the design pressure of the water seal should be 0.7MPa.
