Gas heating furnaces are devices that involve open flames, and they are placed at a considerable distance from Class A factory buildings. If the flue gases are directed to a chimney located at a greater distance using exhaust fans, can this reduce the fire separation distance required between the heating furnace itself and the Class A factory buildings?
Referencing Clause 2.0.8 of the Petrochemical Regulations, it is not allowed. This clause takes into account situations where flames leak out under abnormal conditions; in any case, smoke will still be present, and it is impossible to ensure that the smoke will not leak out of the boiler room
This approach is not advisable, as the chimney and the heating furnace form a single unit
