What is the typical height-to-diameter ratio of dome tanks? Are there any standard specifications required? What is the difference in the height-to-diameter ratio between internal floating roof tanks and fixed-roof tanks?
For internal floating roof and fixed roof tanks, there are reference specifications for diameter and height in the oil storage and transportation manuals; however, no specific requirements regarding the height-to-diameter ratio are specified. At the same time, the size differences between these two types of tanks are not significant; when the diameters are the same, it is possible that the wall of the internal floating roof tank will be at a higher height, due to differences in the calculations for high liquid levels. Other factors such as the land area and local climate also need to be taken into account when deciding whether to make the tanks short and stout or tall and slender.
