For plant accidents involving chlorine gas, the exhaust gases need to be treated using absorption units before being released in compliance with regulations. There are also some accidental emissions from the process equipment, such as those from safety valves or during startup and shutdown operations, and these likewise require treatment via absorption units. Can these two absorption units be combined? If the constructions are carried out together, when the accident ventilation is not in use, is there a risk that process waste chlorine gas could flow back into the factory building through the ventilation ducts? How can this be addressed?
If they are combined, the spray tower will need to be designed on a larger scale, as the volume of air required for emergency exhaust is high. Could using this setup for treating process waste gases result in unnecessary energy consumption? If the design is unreasonable, pollutants can leak back into the workshop. Even after treatment, process exhaust gases cannot be absorbed 100%; it’s fine to release them through chimneys. However, if they leak back into the workshop via exhaust vents, it violates occupational health standards
