For simple distillation columns (such as water-ethanol), would companies install an additional heat exchanger before feeding in order to ensure feeding at the bubble point?
It is not recommended to add it; not all bubble-point feedstocks are good. Feed at a bubbling point will reduce the tower’s separation capacity, making it easy for water to be carried to the top of the tower
To bring the feed to the bubble point, an additional feed heater can be added; this is also the common design for distillation units these days
