According to the design specifications, metal wire mesh is used to insulate pipes and prevent frost damage; does this mean that it’s sufficient to place a layer of metal wire mesh around the pipes, without the need for any insulating material? Is there any standard that provides detailed instructions on this? Thank you!

The wire mesh is used to secure the insulation material, on the outside of it.
One should pay attention to a comprehensive interpretation of insulation; focusing only on the mesh while ignoring its function. There are many materials used for insulation, and this seems to be a method for fixing insulating materials. It could be fixed bulk insulation bricks (expanded perlite bricks) or sprayed insulation material. For reference.
It’s impossible for just wire to do the job, haha. There must be a thermal insulation layer, and there are reportedly new materials that can reduce the thickness of this insulation.
