For the enamel-lined reaction kettles model 212 here, no lubricant is added to the machine seals. I’m not sure why. I want to add lubricant, but I’m worried that if there’s a leak in the seals, the lubricant might leak into the kettle. What should I do?

The mechanical seals used in Model 212 reactors come in an air-cooled, dry-grinding type that does not require lubricant; however, for those that are not of this type, it is recommended to use lubricant.

The Type 212 mechanical seal is a seal with a relatively simple structure; when the operating pressure is not very high, it is sufficient to apply a small amount of oil between the rotating ring and the stationary ring during installation. This is because the stationary ring is usually made of graphite or PTFE materials, which possess self-lubricating properties. If leakage is a concern, an oil collection tray can be added to address it.
