What is the cheapest air heat exchange structure? I have waste flue gas pipes at 350°C, approximately 500 meters in length and DN1800 in diameter. I plan to reduce the temperature to 120°C; heat recovery is not necessary. However, I don’t want to make large investments, so I’m thinking of using a simple air-based heat exchange method. Initially, it was considered to weld heat exchange fins to the outer wall of the pipe, but the fins still need to be purchased, and both aluminum and copper fins are extremely expensive. Are there any catalogs or existing designs that can be used to guide the fabrication of these heat exchange fins on site?

For a pipeline of 1800, the flow rate is generally around 100,000 m3/h, right? The pipe is 500 meters long, and the residence time is over 50 seconds as well; it’s feasible to add fins to the outside of the pipe. One can use iron sheet with a thickness of 2-3 mm for this purpose – there’s no need to purchase anything.

This question is quite absurd. A project is a process of investment and generating returns; it’s not something that can be achieved by simply cutting costs. Stopping all activities would mean saving 2 steamed buns per day, but such a way of thinking will eventually lead the company to disaster. Necessary investments in production are essential; if one focuses only on saving money, no actions will be taken. Over time, the mindset of everyone in the company will be constrained by these restrictions. Even minor suggestions from individuals should be considered, and it’s advisable to hire a professional design firm to design a heat exchanger – this represents a one-time investment.
The investment for a DN1800 smoke duct with a length of 500 meters is also considerable; why not opt for heat recovery instead? Reduces floor space and saves energy!
