Removing only the water contained in the ethyl acetate material can be achieved by using a pervaporation membrane; the water passes through the membrane, enters the low-pressure side where it vaporizes and is then removed. There is no membrane that can dry by pervaporation, remove impurity components such as ethanol and methyl acetate at the same time, and achieve a high purity for ethyl acetate material.
There are probably around 6 companies in China that can produce ethyl acetate: three in Ningbo, two in Wuhan, and one in Nanjing. Molecular sieve membranes can currently only be used for dehydration; the degree of dehydration achievable is below 0.1, with a total recovery rate of over 99%. To remove ethanol, a combination of a distillation column and membrane technology is required; since ethanol, ethyl acetate, and water form an azeotrope, membranes are used first to remove the water, followed by distillation to eliminate ethanol.
