Issues regarding the inlet buffer volume of reciprocating compressors

In addition to the pulsation dampeners built into the cylinders, a separation buffer tank must also be installed at the inlet of reciprocating compressors. According to the process design specifications for chemical systems, a residence time of 5 minutes is required; as a result, the tanks have to be quite large. In the past, I used to design them with a 2-minute residence time. Are there any other regulations or standards regarding the required residence time?

The buffer tank of my diaphragm compressor can’t hold pressure for even 1 minute; the pressure remains stable
Is there any regulatory basis? Some say 8-15 seconds is sufficient
