35,000 tons! Production of aviation-grade PMMA transparent material has begun! On the morning of February 16, the groundbreaking ceremony was held for the construction project of Zhejiang Huashuaite New Materials Technology Co., Ltd., located in Shendang, Haiyan, which aims to produce 35,000 tons per year of aviation-grade PMMA transparent material. Once completed, this project will significantly enhance China’s ability to rely on domestic sources for aviation PMMA materials, providing solid support for the localization and domestic production of aviation equipment. Yang Yuliang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the Institute for the Conservation of Ancient Chinese Books at Fudan University; Yan Yue, secretary of the Party committee and general manager of Beijing Aviation Materials Research Institute Co., Ltd.; and Gu Qiuli, deputy secretary of the county party committee and county head, attended the foundation-laying ceremony. Project Overview: The construction project of Zhejiang Huashuaite New Material Technology Co., Ltd., which aims to produce 35,000 tons per year of aviation-grade PMMA transparent materials, falls under the category of technical improvement projects in the C3741 aircraft manufacturing industry. The total investment amount is 180 million yuan, with a construction period of 18 months; the project is expected to be completed and put into operation in the second half of 2026. The project is located on Yongqing East Road in Shendang Town, Haiyan County, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, covering an area of 20,574 square meters (approximately 30.89 mu). It includes newly built production facilities for aviation panels, a polymerization building, and tank areas, with a total construction area of 23,000 square meters. The project will add 2 new production lines for aviation-grade PMMA transparent material, resulting in an annual production capacity of 35,000 tons of such material. It is expected that annual sales revenue of 630 million yuan can be generated after the project goes into operation. PMMA material, also known as acrylic or plexiglass, is an important plastic polymer that was developed quite early on. It possesses excellent transparency, chemical stability, and weather resistance, making it the best-performing synthetic transparent material to date. However, aviation PMMA transparent materials are known as the \"jewel in the crown\" of the modern aviation industry; they are important materials used in manufacturing key aviation components such as aircraft cabin covers, windshields, and portholes. Their properties have a direct impact on the safety, reliability, and comfort of aircraft. As the performance of modern aircraft continues to improve, transparent components are required not only to withstand the structural stresses resulting from the pressure difference between the inside and outside of the cabin, but also to endure the aerodynamic heating associated with high-speed flight, as well as short-term or long-term thermal effects under various flight conditions. Windshields must also have functions such as de-icing, anti-fogging, protection against bird impacts, and static electricity discharge.
