This technology enhances carbon absorption capacity through centrifugal force, enabling the capture of up to 285 tons of carbon dioxide per day, marking a key step forward in the industrial application of modular carbon capture technology. Traditional carbon capture systems rely on large absorption towers, whereas the technologies tested in this study reduce the height of the equipment by 70% thanks to a compact and efficient rotating packed-bed design; they also cut steel usage by 35%, reduce the floor space required by 50%, and make the size of the core equipment only 1/10 that of traditional systems, thereby significantly enhancing its flexibility for deployment in industrial settings. Aniruddha Sharma, chairman and CEO of Carbon Clean Company, said, “The modular, brick-like design has enabled the rotating packed bed to perform beyond expectations.” The rotating packed bed tested in this experiment was developed through a collaboration between Carbon Clean and the UK-based Thomas Broadbent & Co. John Hulish, the company’s general manager, said, “The rotary packed bed manufactured by our company achieves a balance between performance and quality during large-scale production. The first commercially viable unit has already been produced in the UK, and large-scale production is now underway.” ” According to statistics from the International Energy Agency (IEA), industrial activities account for 37% of global carbon emissions, and carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology is considered key to reducing such emissions. The EU’s Net Zero Industry Act requires that carbon capture capacity of at least 120 million tons per year be established by 2030. Sharma said, “The combination of modular design and local manufacturing enables rapid response to global demands, helping to achieve the scaling up of carbon capture technology.” The company has engaged in discussions with various energy companies as well as industrial parks in the United States and India, with the aim of using the captured carbon dioxide to improve oil recovery rates or to store it in geological formations in the North Sea, striving to capture 100 million tons of carbon dioxide per year by 2030.
