In large reaction vessels, when high-speed heat transfer is required, a tube bundle heat exchanger is installed inside the vessel. What are the design requirements for such a tube bundle heat exchanger? Which standards need to be followed? For example, are there any requirements regarding the number of tube rows?
Our hydrogenation reactor is equipped with an internal heat exchanger, a U-tube heat exchanger. There are no standard specifications; only design requirements exist. For example, the U-tubes must be fixed to prevent leakage caused by friction with the spacers
In the middle is the mixing mechanism, with tubes arranged around it. I’m worried that the spacing between these tubes might be too tight; the tubes located against the outer wall won’t be able to exchange heat effectively. A too thick layer of tubes also poses this risk. I’m not sure if there are any books or materials that explain this in detail
We had this internal heat exchanger designed by a mixer manufacturer; EKATO is a well-known manufacturer of mixers
This type of structure has technical requirements; the spacing and arrangement of the tubes, as well as the type of agitator (with radial flow being the preferred option), all need to be carefully considered.
Relevant information is hard to find. It’s mostly practical experience from actual use.
