Recently, at the 2025 Global Sustainable Aviation Fuel Summit held in London, Dr. Andrew Odjo, CEO of CPTech, announced a breakthrough technology: the UK’s first system for converting plastic waste into sustainable aviation fuel (P2SAF) was unveiled, with the construction of a pilot plant planned for the end of 2025. In his keynote speech, Dr. Andrew Odjo introduced to over 500 policymakers, energy leaders, airlines, and investors how the company’s SAFe-P2SAF patented technology can convert difficult-to-recycle plastic waste into ultra-pure, low-carbon aviation fuel that meets stringent aviation standards. This technology, for which ASTM certification is being applied, can convert mixed plastic waste directly into \"ready-to-use\" sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), which can be blended with conventional aviation fuel without the need to modify existing aircraft or fuel infrastructure. Compared to fossil-based aviation fuel, this fuel can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 70%, and it enables thousands of tons of plastic to be reused instead of being landfilled or burned, representing a key breakthrough for the aviation industry’s decarbonization in pursuit of net-zero emissions by 2050. “Our mission is clear: to address both the problems of plastic pollution and aviation emissions simultaneously,” said Dr. Odjo. “SAFe-P2SAF transforms waste into climate solutions, supporting the UK’s goals for SAF production while also opening up alternative pathways for raw materials such as traditional HEFA that are under supply pressure.” ” This technology was released at a crucial moment for the industry: with the EU’s directive requiring 2% SAF blending by 2025, the UK’s introduction of mandatory SAF quotas, and growing investor interest in recycled feedstocks, large-scale production of sustainable aviation fuel and competition within its supply chains have now fully begun. The SAFe-P2SAF technology is an upgrade of SAFe’s hydrogenation system, Clean Planet Technology’s flagship product that has already been commercialized; this platform has previously succeeded in converting pyrolysis oil into low-carbon fuels. Through this technological advancement, the UK is poised to take a global lead in the diversity of raw materials and innovation in sustainable aviation fuels. The company’s next steps include pursuing ASTM certification, building the first P2SAF pilot plant in the UK by the end of 2025, and expanding cooperation with key industry partners to accelerate commercialization. Dr. Odjo emphasized: “By the end of this year, we will announce plans for the construction of new facilities, focusing on advancing a strategic approach that combines environmental benefits with British Airways’ leadership position.” ”
