Pilot project for catalysts in the synthesis of polycarbonate di (poly) alcohols successfully completed 2025-11-28 Recently, significant technical progress was achieved in the Yueyang Green Chemical Industry High-Tech Zone: the pilot project on catalysts for the synthesis of polycarbonate di (poly) alcohols, led by Professor Meng Yuezhong from Sun Yat-sen University, successfully overcame the key technical challenges related to the efficient conversion of carbon dioxide into biodegradable materials. The core technology of this project has been validated through pilot-scale tests. Based on calculations using an industrial facility with a capacity of 500 tons, it is estimated that the annual output value after production begins will reach 500 million yuan, while taxes generated will amount to nearly 20 million yuan, thereby filling the technical gap in this field in China. Polycarbonate di (poly) alcohols have broad application prospects in the chemical industry, and the performance of the catalysts used for their synthesis directly affects product quality and production efficiency. Based on laboratory research, this project aims to further verify the feasibility, stability, and safety of the catalyst process for synthesizing polycarbonate di (poly) alcohols, and to make every effort to address the key technical challenges associated with industrial-scale production. Leveraging the cutting-edge research achievements of the Institute of Environmental Materials at Sun Yat-sen University, the project team has developed a series of di (poly)ol products that are expected to play an important role in environmental protection efforts such as eliminating white waste and reducing carbon emissions; relevant technologies have previously won the Excellence Award at the China Patent Awards. Yunxi District adheres to an innovation-driven development strategy, focusing on the needs for the upgrading of the modern petrochemical industry. It targets the forefront of development in the field of new chemical materials, and by taking \"research and development – pilot testing – industrial application\" as its core framework, it establishes pilot testing bases, fosters pilot projects, and strengthens collaborative platforms. This approach helps to shift technological innovation from isolated breakthroughs to systematic efforts, thereby providing strong impetus for creating a hub for technological innovation in the modern petrochemical industry in the central region. Establish a pilot production base to overcome the “last mile” in transformation. The province’s first chemical pilot plant was established, incorporating 43 pilot-scale production units and 178 large-scale analysis and testing instruments. Along with facilities such as Class A manufacturing buildings and research office buildings, it provides small and medium-sized enterprises with support for transforming ideas from concept to reality on a scale from 1 to 100, through an open and shared approach. The city level has issued the \"Yueyang City Management Measures for Chemical Pilot Plants and Pilot Projects (Trial)\\", while the district level has introduced specific support policies, thus creating a service system covering the entire life cycle; 15 pilot projects have been signed accordingly. Advance pilot projects to foster new growth points for the industry. Yunxi District aligns precisely with industrial needs by introducing a series of pilot-scale projects with high technical content and broad market prospects. The high-purity hydrogenated bisphenol A synthesis technology independently developed by Hunan Changlian New Materials Technology Co., Ltd. enables the substitution of imported high-quality hydrogenated bisphenol A, meeting the demand for mutual supply of products within the region ; Yueyang Xingchang Petrochemical Co., Ltd. has successfully developed special catalysts as well as a complete set of technologies for producing high-end polypropylene products, and has carried out industrial production to break through foreign technological blockades and barriers ; The pilot-scale project for MOF catalysts at South China University of Technology has completed the process package on a scale of 100 tons, and is now focusing on the development of downstream applications. Yunxi District will further expand and upgrade the pilot production base by adding 2 Class A manufacturing facilities and 1 R&D center, and apply to establish a **-level pilot production base ; Within 5 years, it is planned to advance 70 key projects in the downstream ethylene sector as well as R&D projects related to the development of new materials in the fine chemical industry, through the use of pilot production facilities. This will help foster more industry leaders and specialized enterprises with unique strengths, thereby creating a hub for modern petrochemical innovation in the central region.
