The polymerization process for biodegradable materials PBAT/PBS is the key technology for producing bio-based biodegradable plastics. PBAT is produced by the melt polymerization method, using 1,4-butanediol (BDO), adipic acid (AA), and terephthalic acid (PTA) as raw materials. A prepolymer is formed during the esterification stage, while high-molecular-weight polymerization takes place under high vacuum and high temperature conditions during the polycondensation stage. PBS, on the other hand, uses succinic acid and butanediol as raw materials and undergoes a similar two-step polymerization process. The key to the process lies in precisely controlling the raw material ratios, reaction temperature, vacuum level, and type of catalyst, in order to obtain products with a narrow molecular weight distribution and stable properties.
